About Typing Speed Test — Measure Your WPM
Find out how fast you type. Start typing the passage and the timer begins on your first keystroke; correct characters turn green and mistakes are highlighted in red as you go. When the time is up you get your net WPM (words per minute, corrected for errors), accuracy percentage, gross WPM and character count.
WPM is calculated the standard way — every five typed characters count as one 'word' — so scores are comparable to other typing tests. Net WPM only credits characters you typed correctly, which is why accuracy matters: racing ahead and making mistakes lowers your real score. Pick a 15, 30 or 60‑second test, or Passage mode to type a fixed block of words.
Everything runs locally in your browser with a fresh random passage of common English words each time — nothing is uploaded and there's no account. Regular practice at a comfortable, accurate pace is the fastest way to raise your WPM over time.

Frequently asked questions
How is WPM calculated?
Words per minute uses the standard where 5 characters (including spaces) equal one word. Net WPM = correct characters ÷ 5 ÷ minutes elapsed, so errors reduce your score. Gross WPM counts everything you typed, right or wrong.
What is a good typing speed?
The average adult types around 40 WPM. 60 WPM is solid, 70–80 WPM is fast, and professional typists often exceed 90–100 WPM. Accuracy above 95% is just as important as raw speed.
When does the timer start?
It starts on your first keystroke, not when the page loads, so you can get comfortable before beginning. It stops automatically when the selected time runs out or, in Passage mode, when you finish the text.
Does it save my results or need an account?
No. The test runs entirely in your browser, generates a new random passage each time, and nothing is uploaded or stored. Refresh or hit Restart for a fresh run.
How can I type faster?
Focus on accuracy first — slow down enough to stop making mistakes, keep your fingers on the home row, and don't look at the keyboard. Speed follows naturally with regular practice.
